LEONARD E. SEIDMAN, B.A., B.C.L.
Leonard specializes in civil and commercial law in the hospitality industry including related intellectual property matters, and in real estate law in development and management matters.
In his career in commercial litigation, he has pleaded before all the courts in Quebec, the Federal Court of Canada, and on three successful occasions before the Supreme Court of Canada in landmark cases dealing with good faith in contractual relations, constructive dismissal, and domestic jurisdiction in claims by a public international civil servant for work related injuries. He has also acted before numerous administrative tribunals in Québec, including the Régie des alcohols, des courses et des jeux , where Mr. Seidman often acts as counsel for other law firms who are not specialized in this area.
His services as a mediator have included commercial landlord-tenant disputes, insurance disputes over direct damage claims and third-party liability claims, disputes between co-owners of condominiums and with their syndicates and in professional fee disputes.
His professional writings have appeared in law journals, legal textbooks, and in a report of the Bar of Montreal, for which he was awarded the Merit of the Bar of Montreal in 2005.
